Joanne Lytton

Joanne Lytton resides in Burlington with her husband Melvin. Joanne was born and raised in Hanover PA, where she was a 10 year 4-H’er. She received her BS and MS degrees from Virginia Tech. While she was in Virginia, she was a 4-H and CFS Extension Educator.
Six months after marrying Melvin Lytton, they moved to Indianapolis where she was the Test Kitchen Home Economist for Jenn-Air for 11 years. They have one daughter, Rebecca Maldonado (Esequiel).
The day before fair started in 1996, Joanne joined the Carroll County Extension Office as the Extension Educator for 4-H, HHS and CED. Every state’s 4-H program is different. Joanne thoroughly enjoyed “open 4-H building judging” and meeting Carroll Co. 4-H’ers, parents and volunteers during the fair.
In her 25+ years, Joanne has enjoyed sharing Captain Cash, Professor Popcorn and Character Education with students at the elementary schools. Plus, she has also enjoyed teaching youth during Pond Day, Earth Fair, Ag Day, Pioneer Day and Safety Camp.
On the state level, Joanne helped to write the Microwave 4-H project books and helped coordinate / edit the Llama/Alpaca 4-H project books.
Joanne’s favorite activities include 4-H Spark Club cooking projects, Mini 4-H Days, Junior Leaders and 4-H Camp. She thoroughly enjoys helping 4-H’ers gain life skills and sharing how these life skills can turn into scholarship dollars. During her tenure, she has shared resume writing and interviewing techniques with many Carroll Co. 4-H’ers. Fifty-five of these 4-H’ers have received $62,500 in scholarship dollars through the Indiana 4-H Accomplishment Scholarship.
On the Health and Human Science portion of Extension, Joanne enjoys teaching foods and nutrition programs. She and volunteers share nutrition, cooking and life skills information once a month. Plus, she enjoys teaching a Dining with Diabetes Cooking School and Foods lessons to Extension Homemakers.
Joanne feels blessed to share her love of teaching with the youth and adults in Carroll County and is honored to receive this award.
