Marianne Ash, the daughter of Helen and Charles Yeager (1994 Hall of Fame), was born in 1948 in Carroll County, Indiana. She graduated from Delphi Community High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In 1969, she married Stephen Ash and moved to Kansas where she worked as a research assistant at the Kansas University School of Medicine, while Steve finished medical school. Her love for Indiana and a desire to make her career in animal agriculture resulted in the couple’s return to Indiana in 1973, where Marianne attended the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Marianne worked for 25 years at Yeager & Sullivan (Y&S), managing the health of the company’s poultry and swine inventories in Carroll County and throughout the state.

Following the sale of Y&S in 2001, Dr. Ash joined the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, where she currently serves as the Director for the Division of Animal Programs. In this role, Ash works to enhance Indiana’s abilities for early detection and effective response to high consequence animal diseases and other health related emergencies.

She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Purdue University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences where she educates students on skills, opportunities, and rewards associated with food supply veterinary medicine and veterinary public service.
In 2013 Dr. Ash received Purdue University’s Women in Agriculture Leadership Award for her work in advancing disease traceability and biosecurity in Indiana. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Helwig-Jennings Award for outstanding service to the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and was also named a Fellow in the National Academies of Practice Academy of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Ash has served on numerous committees and councils for the American Veterinary Medical Association, the United States Animal Health Association and the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and is the current president-elect for the College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
