2012 Dwaine Ward

Dwaine Ward was born November 14, 1938 in Howard County, to Lowell and Karlene Ward. The Ward family moved to Carroll County in 1940, and Dwaine graduated from Delphi High School in 1957.

Dwaine’s wife is Geri. Dwaine has two daughters, Janelle Dunfee, and Janilyn Layton, and two step sons Jeff and Jason Spurlock.

In 1959, Dwaine started farming, and after nearly 30 years, retired from farming in 1985. Dwaine started his second career in auctioneering after he attended the Reppertt School of Auctioneering in 1960. Additionally, he sold Pioneer Seed corn for 22 years, retiring from that in 2009.

Over the course of his adult life, Dwaine has been active in both the private and public sector. He served on the ASC committee, Extension Board, Fair Board. He spent 8 years on the Delphi School Board, with 4 years as President, he has serve on the County Tax Board, and 6 years in the US Army Reserves.

Dwaine has been involved in agriculture since his youth. Dwaine was a 10 year 4-H member, 4-H leader for 3 years, and also a Rural Youth member.

Currently, Dwaine serves as the Madison Township Trustee, member of Delphi Building Corporation board, Chairman of the Delphi Fire Territory Advisory Board, serves on the Carroll County Christmas Food Baskets committee, is a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, where he serves as a trustee Dwaine and is a member of Indiana Farm Policy Committee, member of Delphi Lions Club, and still works as an auctioneer.

Some of the honors he has received include the Lion of the Year award, and also the Melvin Jones Award from Lions club, which is the highest Achievement Award.

Dwaine has lived in the same house for 50 years.
