2011 Tom Mylet

Tom Mylet, the middle child of John and Elizabeth Mylet, grew up in Washington Township, Carroll County with his sister, Rosemary, and his brother, Joe, on the family grain and livestock farm. Growing up, Tom was active in 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1968.

After high school Tom attended Purdue University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Purdue University Football Team, and The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He graduated in 1972 with a B S in Agriculture.

Tom and his wife Linda reside in Washington Township on the family farm. The Mylets have two sons, Neil and Nicholas. Linda teaches at Carroll Elementary School.

Tom began his working career as a part time farmer and full time hog buyer for Wilson Foods in Logansport. Tom spent two years running the Wilson Hog Buying Station at Rossville before returning to the Logansport Plant as assistant head buyer and later as hog procurement manager. Mylet was assigned the task of developing and implementing the pork industries first true carcass value payment program for all U.S. Wilson Foods plants. This project was accomplished and received USDA-Packers and Stockyard certification in Washington, D. C. in the late 1970s.

In 1993 Tom began his career as a full time farmer and livestock trader on The Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Today he continues trading livestock and farms in partnership with his sons and brother in Carroll and Cass Counties. The Mylet Home Farm is now being operated by the fifth and sixth generations of Mylet family members and has been in the family for 150 years.

Mylet has served on the Carroll County Extension Board, Excel Coop Board of Directors, and Co-Alliance, LLP Board of Directors. Tom belongs to the John Purdue Club, The Purdue President’s Council, The American Association of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and attends the Delphi United Methodist Church.
