2005 Ross Striebeck

Ross Alan Striebeck

Ross Alan Striebeck was born in Hancock County on May 28, 1958, to Robert and Virginia Striebeck. He grew up and worked on the family farm, Sugar Creek Poultry Farm. Ross graduated from Greenfield Central High School in 1976.

He attended Purdue University and graduated in agriculture education with his bachelor’s degree, and in 1981, his master’s degree. Following graduation, he accepted a teaching position at Delphi Community School Corporation, where he has served the students, school, and community for 24 years.

Striebeck married Debbie Allen on Aug. 19, 1978. They have two girls, Danielle Anderson, 23, and Ashley Striebeck, 19. Danielle and Nick Anderson have a daughter, Karmyn M. Anderson. Ashley is engaged to Luke Calvin. Debbie has been a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the past 27 years.

Ross and Debbie enjoy working with the girls’ 4-H projects, school activities, and raising horses. Their newest hobby is trying to keep up with their granddaughter, Karmyn.

Ross is a member of the Carroll County 4-H Exhibit Board and the Indiana Association of Agriculture Educators. He is a former member of Delphi Lions Club and Delphi Chamber of Commerce. He served as vice president of the chamber in 2000. He has enjoyed numerous leadership, coaching, and community service activities with his students over the past 24 years. The most enjoyable, Striebeck said, has been the many park projects that he and his students have helped with since 1988, as well as the community food and toy drives.

Striebeck has received some recognition over the years, but he said the two most memorable awards came in 2002, when he received the Project E, Excellence in Education teacher award and the Conservationist of the Year for Secondary Teachers. He said it is always rewarding to receive accolades from peers, but what made it special was that his colleagues at Delphi and Rossville schools nominated him without his knowledge.

In 1998, he received an award from Delphi Chamber of Commerce “in recognition of contributions to the Delphi educational school system,” and in 2003, he received the Making a Difference Award. Striebeck readily admitted that he could not have done it without the inspiration and support of his family and friends.
