2004 Joe Jones

Joe Jones
Joe Jones was born east of Camden in 1934 to Charles & Eva
Jones. He attended Rockfield and Camden schools and graduated from
Purdue University in 1956 with a B.S. in Animal Science. While at
Purdue he was a member of Acacia fraternity. Following graduation,
he accepted a position as a hog buyer for Kingan & Company in
Indianapolis. In November of 1956, Uncle Sam came calling and Joe
was off to the Army. He spent 16 months in Korea in the Veterinary
Corp. Following his tour of duty he returned to Kingan’s as a hog
buyer at the Indianapolis Stockyards. In January of 1960, Joe was
transferred to the Camden Stockyards to open a hog buying station.

In 1965 Joe started working for Camden State Bank and transferred
to Bright National Bank in 1973. After six years, he moved back to
Camden State Bank and retired as president in 1991. A couple years
later he was lured back to Bright National Bank in 1993 and then
retired from there in 1999.

Joe married Barbara Schock in May of 1957. They have 2
children, a son, Brian and a daughter, Beth. Brian & Robin have 2
girls and a boy and Beth and Jerry have 2 boys. Joe and Barb spend
their winters in North Fort Myers, Florida and the summers at home
east of Camden. Joe helps Brian with his farming during the spring
and fall. They enjoy their grandchildren tremendously. Joe has
been very involved in community activities such as Camden Lions
Club, Jackson Twp. Advisory Board, Camden Community Club, Flora
Community Club, Flora Rotary, Carroll Co. Board of Realtors,
Carroll County Extension Board, John Purdue Club, and several
banking affiliations. He is presently involved with St. Peters
Lutheran Church, Carroll County Community Foundation, Habitat for
Humanity, Camden Preservation Society, Purdue Club of Carroll
County and Camden – Jackson Senior Citizens Housing.

Joe and Barb have enjoyed playing golf for several years and
are active in buying, collecting and selling antiques. Joe misses
the daily contact with customers and friends he established while
working at Camden State Bank and Bright National Bank. Joe
comments that Carroll County is a great place to live, work and
raise a family.
