Kenneth R. Orem
Born April 24, 1938, in Howard County to Kenneth and Eva Orem, Kenny Orem moved with his family to Burlington Township in 1949, attended school there and married his class mate, Joyce Loman in October 1956.
After farming in Burlington Township with his wife, he left farming in 1968 to work for the tomato processing company, Libby McNeill & Libby, where he served as an area field man traveling the states of Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Orem returned to farming in 1980 and his current operation consists of about 2,000 acres in southeastern Carroll and western Howard counties. In addition to crops, he runs a cow calf operation. The home he shares with his wife in Burlington Township is her birthplace.
Orem and his wife have five children, Dale of Flora; Darlene of Atlanta, Ga.; Dawn, who lives in Howard County; Glenda of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Dean of Dalton, Ga. They also have seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Always a community-minded person, Orem was active in 4-H and FFA during his younger years and served both groups as their president. He was elected state FFA officer in 1958 and received the American Farmers Degree in 1959. He is a past 4-H leader, has served two terms on the extension board, and recently opened his farm to host the district soils judging contest. Orem is currently serving his 23rd year as a member of the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation board of trustees, where he has been an officer for 20 of those years.
He is a contributing writer for Indiana Agri News, writing for the section, From the Fields.
He is a member of the Flora Christian Church and his hobbies include, cattle, Purdue University sports and raising pumpkins for his children.
