Richard C. Roach
Dick Roach was born on 12/14/34 to Harley and Maude Roach of Jefferson Township. He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Monticello in 1952. In 1953 he attended Purdue University and studied Ag Economics for one semester before joining the Indiana National Guard. Dick returned to Purdue in 1954 and completed the Ag Winter Course.
On December 30, 1956 Dick married Gretchen MaHanna. Gretchen had been working in Chicago as a dress designer for Adrian Tabin. They have three children: Robin, a Purdue University graduate, and her husband Jim York, live in Salem, Oregon with their two daughters; Rick, a Stetson University graduate, and his wife Sharon, live and farm in Jefferson township with their
three children; snd Raegan, a United States Air Force Academy graduate, and her husband Major E.W. Kaler, live in Anchorage, Alaska with their three children.
Dick is a fourth generation farmer in Jefferson Township and specialized in the production of grain and cattle. His son Rick joined the operation after completing college and he is the 5th generation to till the northern Carroll County soil. Dick served as organizer and President of Roach / Harner Farms, Inc., which is an Indiana Corporation of over 5500 acres. Dick has served as a Commanding Officer of both Rensselaer and Monticello National Guard Units in addition to serving one year on the Battalion Staff in Logansport as a Training Officer. Dick resigned from the National Guard after serving 13 years and after attaining the rank of Captain.
Dick has spent a great deal of his life serving the community in which he loves. He served as a Director and President of the former Farmers Elevator Company in Monticello, which later sold to Premier. He also served as a member and director of Roosevelt Middle School Building Corporation, as well as a member and President of the Twin Lakes School Building Improvement
Corporation. He has served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a director at the State & Savings Bank in Monticello, which is now Wells Fargo, for 20 years. Dick served as the Carroll County 4-H Dairy superintendent and is a member of the Purdue University Ag Alumni. Dick is presently serving his second term as a member of the Carroll County Council.
Dick is grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of both Carroll and White Counties and he enjoys working with the youth of various organizations.
