Jim Huffer
Jim Huffer was born 12/11/45 to Raymond and Louise Huffer of Burlington Township. Jim attended Burlington elementary and Junior High and was in the third graduating class at Carroll High School in 1964. He attended Indiana university and received his B.S. degree in 1968 in Business Management. He then went on and attended the Indiana University School of Law and graduated in 1973. He returned to Carroll County and joined the law firm of Obear, Overholser, and Smith and began his law practice in Delphi.
Jim and his brother, Marion, began farming with their father and following his death, they continued to farm and expand their operation. Their operation consists of several acres of corn and soybeans and several thousand hogs. They go by Huffer Brothers in their agriculture enterprises and they have included Dave Miller as a partner is their swine operation.
Jim has three children: Andrew, who works as a Computer Engineer in Chicago; Christopher, who is a first year medical student at Indiana University: and Abigail, who is studying Chemical Engineering at DePauw University.
Jim has always been community minded and has served the public since his graduation from college. Jim was a charter member of the Delphi Senior Citizen Housing, of which he currently serves as treasurer. He also become very active with the Carroll County United Fund and served continuously as president since 1975. Jim was also a charter member of the Carroll County Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization which began to build a permanent endowment
for Carroll County. Jim is also a member of the Carroll County Bar Association, Delphi Rotary Club and the Todd Burman FOP Lodge.
Jim served as attorney for Carroll County for four years. As Delphi City attorney for 17 years and as Carroll County Prosecutor from 1991 – 1994 and 1999 – 2002. He was Chief Deputy Prosecutor for 11 years. Jim has assisted the Extension Service and the Carroll County 4- H Exhibit Association with legal services for many years. Jim was instrumental in getting the legal work arranged to build the 4-H Community Building in 1979. The building that we are holding this meeting in is used by the community on a daily basis and serves the entire county.
Jim’s greatest joy is his children and grandchildren.
