Gordon McCain

Gordon McCain was born in 1935 to Fred and Iris McCain of Carrollton Township. Gordon graduated from Flora High School in 1954 and attended Purdue University and then served 8 years in the Naval Reserve.

Gordon married Sandra Cook in 1957 at the Flora Methodist Church and they had 2 sons, Scott and Brook, and 5 grandsons. There have been no girls born in the McCain family for over 100 years. Gordon and Sandra live on the farm that was homesteaded by Gordon’s grandmother’s family Gordon started farming with his father, Fred, on the family farm in 1958. Gordon worked on the farm until his retirement in 2001. Gordon and Sandra brought Scott into the operation after high school and he worked with them until 1999 when he took a job with Daimler- Chrysler in Kokomo. Brook is a sergeant with the Delphi Police Department.

Gordon has always been one to be involved with community service and he has had lots of outside interests. He has been a member of the Carroll County Council for the past 22 years and has been the Chairman for the past 21 years. He has been a member of the Carroll County Community Foundation for the past 4 years. Gordon has always enjoyed officiating sports and he began during the 1958-59 school year and he has worked more than 30 State Championship contests for the IHSAA. He has had game contracts to work tournaments for every Commissioner the IHSAA has had with the exception of Arthur L. Trester, who was the 1″ Commissioner. He worked college basketball and football at NCAA Division 2A and 3A and NAJA in Indiana and the 4 surrounding states, which included several Division 2 and 3 football play-off games

Gordon has enjoyed serving his community in various capacities such as the Farmers Home Administration Board and the Carroll County Pork Producers. Gordon was on the committee when they decided to build the 4-H Community Building which he feels was some of the best money the County ever spent.

Gordon and Sandra are members of Jubilee Fellowship Church at Flora and try to assist wherever they are needed. Sandra was employed for 8 years as the Program Assistant at the Carroll County Extension Office, a time she enjoyed very much. While the boys were growing up she was a stay at home homemaker for her children.
