2001 Dr. Larry Stauffer


Lawrence Stauffer was born in Lake County Ohio in 1937. He attended and graduated from Perry High School in 1954. While in Ohio, Larry was a 10-year 4-H member. Following graduation he enrolled at Purdue University and majored in Farm Management, Vegetable Production and Pre-Vet and received his B.S. in 1958. Larry and Lillian Wilkison were married in 1958 in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was commissioned in the Transportation Corps of the U.S. Army and spent the next 5 years at Fort Eustis, Virginia; Augsburg and Berlin, Germany; and Fort Benning, Georgia
Following his tour of duty, he entered the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1967. During his years of Veterinary school, Larry assisted Dr Ben Bright from Rossville. During their time in Veterinary School, Larry and Lillian lived on the Snowberger Farm East of ackley, renting from Bob Sieber and then Dick McCain.

Larry’s first assignment following Veterinary School was to Goshen, New York, where he worked with a Dairy Cattle and Race Horse practice. In December of 1968 Larry purchased the Veterinary Practice of Dr E. S. Emerson in Delphi, and He and Lillian have been Carroll County citizens since that time.

Larry has always been well involved in community activities and was a member of the Delphi School Board for 13 years. He has served 3 terms on the Carroll County Extension Board, and serves on the Carroll County Board of Health. Dr. Stauffer is a member of the Indiana State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners; the Indiana Controlled Substances Advisory Committee; the Indiana Swine Health Advisory Committee; the Advisory Committee to the Purdue Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory; and District, Indiana, and American Veterinary Medical Associations. In the 1970’s Larry and Dr John Bush forked in developing the pseudorabies vaccine that was made and distributed by Norton Laboratories. In addition, Larry coordinates the large animal practitioners working at the Indiana State Fair Dr Stauffer is an .avid Purdue sports fans and travels several miles each year to support their teams.

Larry and Lillian have 3 children; Bill, Liesl, and Ben and 6 grandchildren all three of the children have their college degrees from Purdue University. Larry is a member of the Delphi Presbyterian Church and a supporter of the Carroll County 4-H Program
