Steve Nichols

Nichols was born in 1951 I Boone County. He graduated from Granville Wells High School in 1969. He majored in animal sciences at Purdue University and received his B.S. degree in 1975.

His career in Extension began in 1975 with an appointment to Clark County in Southern Indiana. He worked there until he moved to his present position with the Carroll County Extension in 1977.

He and his wife, Chere, were married in 1980. They have three children, Charlie, Brandi, and Woody. The Nichols have both placed a very high priority on their family time and values and have spend countless evening following the children with their sports and school activities

Nichols is involved with several groups and agencies in Carroll County. He serves on the Area Plan Commission and is a member of the Carroll County Economic Development Commission. He works closely with the Carroll County Pork Producers, the Indiana Pork Producers and has served as a delegate to five National Pork Forums

Nichols enjoys judging swine shows, and his services have been sought in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. He judged the Houston Stock Show in 1997. Houston is the largest swine show in the United States with over 5,000 entries.

Nichols and his wife have a small farm where they enjoy raising all kinds of livestock.

Nichols was instrumental in getting the Carroll County Agriculture Hall fo fame established an in getting the 4H Community Building constructed at the fairgrounds.

He and his family are active in their church, First Assembly of God in Delphi. He serves as head usher.

Nichols received the Meritorious Service Award and the Outstanding Young Pork Producer Award from the Indiana Pork Producers. The Indiana Extension Educators Association awarded him with its Top Senior Award and its Innovator’s Award.
