Joan McCain

Joan McCain was born and raised in Carroll County. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1948 and attended the Short Course at Purdue University. She married John Richard McCain in 1950.

McCain is very active in the community. She served as Noble Grand of her Lodge, Adina Rebekah, where she also served as secretary and was on the degree staff for several years. She received the Decoration of Chivalry for her devoted service to the Lodge. She served as secretary and on the Board of Directors for the Carroll County Red Cross from 1985- 1995.

McCain has been involved with the American Legion Veteran Poppy Days for many years and she also has been involved with the Christian Rural Overseas Program (CROP) by serving as its secretary. She has worked on many fund drives, assisting the Red Cross, Heart Association, Cancer Group, and CROP.

She is on the Advisory Council for Emergency Management and serves as its secretary as well as being on the board of director for the Carroll County Community Foundation. She also has been a member of the Carroll County Welfare Board.

McCain received the Carroll County Belleringer Award for her work with the Carroll County Pork Producers and Porkettes and just recently was honored with the Maxine Nash Award, which is given by the Indiana Pork Producers Association for outstanding service to the swine industry and has served on the county, state, and national levels.

She is a member of the Flora United Methodist Church.

In the political arena, McCain received the annual Honor Member Century + plaque in 1995 for her service to politics.

Her hobbies include yard work, visiting flea markets, decorating, being in parades, and making cookies and candy during the holidays.
