BILL PICKART

Bill was born on February 24, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Carrollton Township and graduated from Carroll High School in 1963. He attended Purdue University and received his B S degree in Ag Economics in 1967. While at Purdue, Bill was President of the Purdue Student Union and Phi Delta Theta. He received the Iron Key which is the highest honorary offered to Purdue students.

Bill and his wife, Joanne (Jodi) Osmun were married in 1967. They have 2 daughters; Karen, an agent with RME Insurance, and Jill, who was killed in an auto accident in 1994. Bill’s father, J.V., was inducted in the Carroll County “Agriculture” Hall of Fame in 1994. Bill’s grandfather, Claude Wickard was Secretary of Agriculture during the Roosevelt Administration.

Bill’s farming operation, Fairacre Farms and Carrollton Farms, is comprised of 1600 acres and a farrow to finish swine operation marketing around 3000 head / yr .

Bill has given a large portion of his life to community service. He was the first secretary of the Carroll County Pork Producers and served it in all capacities. He received the Outstanding Young Pork Producer Award in 1980. He has been heavily involved with the IN PPA over the years by serving on various boards and committees. He served on the Carroll County 4-H Swine Committee for several years and spent many hours at the County Fair working with the swine show.

Bill was elected to the Carroll School Board in 1974 and has served as it’s president for many years. He has served as Chairman for the Carroll County Ag Club and he was asked to serve on Lt. Governor John Mutz’s Ag Advisory Committee in 1988.

Bill received the prestigious Indiana Prairie Farmer Master Farmer award in 1990. He presently serves on the Prairie Farmer’s Profit Panel which appears with each issue. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Excel Cooperative in 1996 and serves on their Policy Committee. Bill is presently treasurer of the Purdue Club of Carroll County.
