ELIZABETH PETERSON

Elizabeth Peterson was born in Democrat Township and graduated from Cutler High School in 1924. She attended college at Madam Blaker Teachers College in Indianapolis (which is now an affiliate of Butler University). Elizabeth taught 3rd and 4th grade students and she was the Head of the Interdenominational Young People of Carroll County. This was an extremely large group and at one of their conferences in Flora they attracted over 1300 young people. It was partly due to this group that she hooked a tall dark and handsome farmer from North of Delphi that she has spent the last 58 years with.

Elizabeth and Joe Peterson were married in 1938. They have 2 children; Stephen Frank Peterson, who lives in South Carolina; and Virginia Elizabeth Allen, who lives in East Lancing, Michigan. They have 3 grandchildren.

Elizabeth has always been very active in the community as she is a past president of the County Home Demonstration Club and she has been very active in the Delphi Presbyterian Church in which she was the first woman elder. The Peterson’s have been long time active Farm Bureau members and Elizabeth was Mother Advisor for Rainbow for 18 years for the Delphi area. In addition she served as Grand Chairman for the International Order for Rainbow for Girls for the State of Indiana.

Elizabeth and Joe have been active in the Senior Citizens and the Wabash and Erie Canal Association. Elizabeth has always been Joe’s right hand assistant on the farm and has taken a great deal of pride in her family and community.
