W.S. (Winnie) WEAVER
Winnie Weaver was born in 1912 in Princeville, Illinois and graduated from Princeville High School. Following graduation he attended the University of Illinois and received his B.S. in Agriculture Education. He then moved to Millersburg, Indiana and taught school for 2 years in the Elkart County School. His next stop was at De1phi for 4 years and following a one year stint at Seymour High School, he returned to Delphi to finish his career as the vocational agriculture teacher at Delphi Community High School. Winnie received his M.S. degree from Purdue University.
Winnie and his wife, Leota, were married in Bluffton, Indiana. They had 3 children who all graduated from college. Martha Kay was an entomology graduate of Purdue University; Dix, an animal science graduate from Purdue who now works for Eli Lilly, and Mary, a graduate of Indiana University who now resides in Pasadena, California. Winnie was one of the top Vocational Agriculture teachers and FFA Advisors in the State. Winnie always demanded the most from his students and strived to make them better citizens. He was state president and national vice-president of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. He spent several hours working with students on various judging teams and public speaking contests.
Winnie has been involved with 4-H as an Adult Leader for over 50 years and has worked with the Exhibit Association as well as serving as announcer for the livestock shows and 4-H auction at the County Fair.
Winnie has been an avid investor and has accumulated several acres of farmground in Carroll County. He was awarded the Indiana Vocational Agriculture “Teacher of the Year Award” during his tenure at Delphi Community High School.
