1994 John McCormick
JOHN B. McCORMICK
John McCormick was born in 1914 in Tippecanoe County. His family moved to Madison Township in Carroll County in 1930. He and his wife Mary were married in 1935. They have 2 hildren; a son, Eric who manages McCormick Farms; and a daughter, Susan Griese, who lives near Evansville. In addition, they have grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
John has been one of the larger and more aggressive farmers in Carroll County. In the earlier years he was very involved in the swine business and in the latter years he concentrated more on grain farming. John has opened his farm to host the Indiana Farm Management Tour twice. Once in 1948 and again in 1988.
John has been very community minded and has served on various boards and committees. Some of these were: State Farm Management Association, Farm Bureau, SWCD, County Extension committee, state CARET Committee, Governor’s Ethanol Committee, Carroll County Planning Committee, U B & T Bank Director, Delphi School Building corporation, John Purdue Club, and Indiana Farm Policy Committee.
John has unselfishly devoted many hours to worthwhile programs away from the farm. He has received several awards for his accomplishments. Some include: Purdue Plaque for Outstanding contribution to Agriculture, Purdue Ag Alumni Certificate of Distinction, Ford Farm Efficiency Award, Prairie Farmer Master Farmer, Soil Conservation Distinguished Award, and Delphi American Legion Outstanding citizen.
John and Mary have been able to do a considerable amount of traveling and have visited several different countries.
John and Mary have given much back to the county. In 1988 they established a sizable scholarship with DCHS so students could attend the Purdue School of Agriculture.
