1994 Dr. John Bush


John Bush was born in 1931 in Chandlerville, Illinois. His family moved to Tippecanoe county and John graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1948. John had an illustrious football career at Jeff and played on the same line with Dick the Bruiser. John attended Purdue University for 2 years before enrolling in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State. 1954 was a busy year for Doc because he graduated from Veterinary school, married his wife, Virginia, and started his practice in Flora.

Doc and Virginia have 4 children; Jennifer Miller, who works for pioneer HiBred; Jane Zook, who is a Vet Tech and a busy mother of 5 (3 year old quads); Randy, a veterinarian with Bush Vet Services; and Jay,a banker with Salin Bank in Flora. Virginia is a registered nurse and is the school nurse for Carroll Schools.

Doc has a mixed practice but has always specialized in swine medicine. He has been a pioneer in the field with many swine diseases, and is one of the true experts on the topic of pseudorabies. Because of this knowledge, he has been asked to speak at several swine meetings and seminars across the midwest.

Doc belongs to the Local, State and National Veterinary Associations as well as the American Association of Swine Practitioners.

Doc has always been one to give back to the community as he is a member of the united Methodist Church and a past member and President of the Carroll County Exhibit 4-H Association. Doc is also a past member of the Carroll Consolidated School Board.
