Communicating with Farmers Under Stress – Workshop

This Workshop is for Agriculture Professionals who work with farmers and their families.

Numerous factors may cause stress for farmers. Many farmers face financial problems, price and marketing uncertainties, farm transfer issues, production challenges and more. You may know farmers who struggle with stress, anxiety. depression, burnout, indecision or suicidal thoughts.

You want to help but maybe are not sure what to say or do. Or maybe you find yourself having to deliver difficult news to farmers. This workshop will help you recognize and respond when you suspect a farmer or farm family member might need help.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES ~ Participants will:

  • Build awareness around potentially stressful conditions affecting some farmers.
  • Learn stress triggers, identify signs of stress and review helpful techniques for responding.
  • Learn techniques for identifying, approaching and working with farmers who may not cope with stress effectively.
  • Learn where to go for additional help.

The workshop will be held on August 20th from
8:30am to 3:30pm at the Cass County
Fairgrounds. 2281 East 125 North,
Logansport, Indiana.

Prevent Plant Cover Crop Funding Available

See below for information applying for funding for cover crops

The Carroll, Tippecanoe and Howard County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) in partnership with the Deer Creek-Sugar Creek Watershed Project announces the availability of funding from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Section 319 program and our local partners to directly enhance Little Deer Creek and Sugar Creek in Carroll, Howard and Tippecanoe Counties.  The grant will provide funding for agricultural producers within the target drainages of Little Deer Creek (Carroll and Howard Counties) and Sugar Creek (Carroll and Tippecanoe Counties) to improve water quality on their property through cover crop planting. Prevent plant cover crop funding is available on an as-needed basis. To receive funding, projects must meet three criteria:

  • 1) Be located within the target area (mapped in green on the enclosed figure);
  • 2) Consist of cover crop planting which follows NRCS technical specifications for prevent planting; and
  • 3) Be pre-approved by project’s technical committees and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Prevent plant cover crop applications will be reviewed as applications are received. The next round of regular applications for any other project type are due August 1st.

To learn more about the project, view details of the qualifications and/or to apply for cost-share funding, visit www.dcscwatershed.org/cost-share or contact your local soil and water conservation district.

2008 Dodge Charger purchased with help from CCAA in 2012

In 2012, the Carroll County Agriculture Association raised (and matched) funds to purchase a car for the Carroll County Reserve Deputies.  Reserve Deputies are all-volunteer deputies who assist the Carroll County Sheriff department in local law enforcement.   In 2008, CCAA and its members raised donated $12,250.

Please download and review the attached letter for more information.
