Check Tile – Watch for Roadside Fiber Installation

You may have noticed a lot of activity along the roadsides this summer as different internet providers are installing fiber along the county road right-of-way.  Currently, Comcast is installing fiber, and they are marking the roads with pink flags.  If you see these flags along your fields, please make a note.  Some things to consider:

(1)  They have to file a permit with the County Highway Department and provide plans to show their path

(2)  They are required to stay 10′ away from County tiles and drains

(3)  They are required to stay clear of private tiles and repair any damages

If you see flags along your fields, make note of where they might intersect your private tiles or the County tiles and keep track of whether the installation contractors stay clear.

If you have questions or concerns, you can contact the County Surveyor:

  • Robert Gross, County Surveyor
  • (765) 564-3310
  • surveyor@carrollcountyin.gov

You can obtain a copy of the permit for your road from the Carroll County Highway Department.

Meanwhile, keep an eye on your drainage system to see whether there is any damage from the installation process.  There will be a limited time to claim reimbursement for repairs.
