New Process for Ag Commercial Driver’s License

(INDIANAPOLIS) December 5, 2012 – On behalf of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture wants to inform Indiana drivers seeking a Restricted Commercial Driver’s License for Agricultural Purposes (Restricted Class B CDL) that they will need to take a completed license application, beginning on December 10, 2012, to a local license branch. The application for Restricted Commercial Driver’s License for Agricultural Purposes (State Form 48440) will be available on the myBMV.com website.

With this new process, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will issue the Ag CDL as a credential and seasonal authorization document rather than issue a paper Ag CDL. This revision is necessary for Indiana’s program to be compliant with Federal Code, 49 CFR 383.153 and 383.155.

The applicant must surrender his/her base license when the BMV issues the Restricted Class B CDL. Thirty (30) days prior to each season, the Seasonal Authorization Document (paper) with the seasonal validity dates will be mailed to the applicant’s mailing address on file with the BMV. The cost is $30 and will last for eight seasons.
