Pfizer Animal Health is accepting nominations for a program recognizing people working in pork operations who consistently reach for higher standards and put in extra effort to make positive contributions to on-farm processes and practices.
This program recognizes people who work behind the scenes – those in the barn, service managers, production managers or anyone else who ensures every little thing is done right – to raise healthy, productive pigs. “Through the Fostera PCV recognition of excellence program, we want to celebrate those individuals who go above and beyond to exemplify higher standards,” says Benjamin Church, senior marketing communications manager, Pfizer Animal Health.
Winners will be selected by an independent panel and each will receive $1,000 cash, plus an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the Pfizer Animal Health headquarters and New York City on April 18-21, 2012.
Deadline for submitting nominations is November 30.

News and information from the Farm Service Agency offices:
1.) In July we have experienced extreme heat conditions. If your livestock have been affected by the heat, we have a disaster assistance program in which you may be eligible. The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) is for producers who have experienced livestock deaths due to adverse weather. You must fill out a Notice of Loss form within 30 days of losing your livestock. The USDA bases the LIP national payment rate for eligible livestock owners on 75 percent of the average fair market value of the livestock. If you think this program applies to you, please call our office for more information and to find out if you are eligible. 765-564-2849
2.) The County Committee Election ballots will be mailed out to Local Administrative Area 3 including the townships of Washington, Carrollton, Burlington and Democrat starting November 4th. The ballots will need to be postmarked by December 5th. Make sure you exercise your right to vote!
3.) All producers who filled out an Average Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) form to be eligible for payment also needed to fill out a form giving consent to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to verify that you have not exceeded the income limitations. We sent this form home with you to send it to the IRS. If you did not send this form to the IRS, you probably received a letter stating that you needed to send one in. If you do not send this form to the IRS, you will not be eligible for your final farm program payments in October and you will have to refund all applicable payments. If you are not sure if you mailed it in or not, please feel free to call our office and we can check our list. 765-564-2849
If you know you have not sent in the form, you can click here to access the form to print and mail to the IRS. For individuals, please click here: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/ccc927.For entities, please click here:http://www.fsa.usda.gov/ccc928.

Normally, “cutting corners” is not a good thing – you think of shoddy workmanship, inferior parts, and a rush to complete a project. In this case, Cutting Corners is a “Good Thing” for school safety. Cutting back corn corners helps with visibility for buses and other travelers.
Carroll County Sheriff Tony Burns encourages farmers to cut corners. “As a person that has worked hundreds of traffic crashes I have worked some where the drivers view has been obstructed by something. I have also seen where farmers are getting crops so close to the roadway that they may actually be planting a row or two on county right of way. I have seen intersections were you have to get the front end of your car in the intersection to see if traffic is approaching. This is a recipe for disaster. As citizens of Carroll County we all have a responsibility to make our travels on the roadways as safe as possible. If there is an intersection with a view obstruction that can be made safer by cutting back crops or vegetation, then we are obligated to our fellow citizens to take the corrective actions.”
Look a the “before” and “after” pictures, below, to see the difference made when the corn is cut back from the corners. Even on a bus, where the driver has higher clearance, it make a substantial difference in visibility – both to the bus driver and to oncoming traffic.
