Community Connections-Economic Development Plan
Carroll County Chamber of Commerce along with the Carroll County Economic Development Corporation have worked to promote and retain business (jobs) within our county. (12) proposed projects that have been presented to Carroll County Government. To fund these projects The Chamber and Economic Development Corporation have requested the County Council and the County Commissioners dedicate an EDIT tax increase of .15%. The Chamber and EDC believe that these projects will:
(a) bring new businesses to the county
(b) help retain the businesses that currently exist
(c) increase a diverse and healthy economic tax base within the county

The Carroll County Council voted today to raise the EDIT tax by .05% – the Total EDIT rate will be .15%. The Council felt that they had to consider LOIT (Local Option Income Tax) options to help bring the county budget back in line, and they did not want to have the total county rate (LOIT and EDIT) exceed 2%. The current county rate (2008) is 1.1% If the Council passes a LOIT increase, you will probably see (approximately) 1.95% as the county tax for 2009.
The Carroll County Commissioners voted to approve the 2008 EDIT budget presented by the EDC and the Carroll County Chamber.
